John J. Clennan

Mr. Clennan was born in St. Paul, Minnesota and grew up on a dairy farm in St. Croix County, Wisconsin. He received his Bachelor of Science from the University of Wisconsin in 1976 and his J.D. from South Texas College of Law in 1979. Mr. Clennan’s career in the oil and gas industry started with a Houston based law firm, Jonathan Brook & Associates, and has spanned 35 years in the practice of oil and gas law and real property law related to oil and gas. Before founding Clennan & Hood, PLLC, Mr. Clennan has practiced oil and gas law at several different Houston based firms, including his own during that time.

Mr. Clennan has extensive experience in the area of title examination in the States of Texas and North Dakota including conventional and non-conventional plays and a wide variety of title opinions related to oil and gas development. Over the years, Mr. Clennan has also enjoyed a broad practice in the oil and gas industry including transaction work, mergers and acquisitions, litigation, real property, and appeals work. Mr. Clennan is a wealth of knowledge in oil and gas law and is regularly relied upon by clients, as well as others in the legal industry for his knowledge and advice. Mr. Clennan has also represented real estate developers in the acquisition and finance of commercial properties, including issuing opinion letters in mortgage loan transactions.

Mr. Clennan has been Board Certified in Oil, Gas and Mineral Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization since 1997. Mr. Clennan is a member of the Oil, Gas & Energy Resources Law Section of the State Bar of Texas, a member of the College of the State Bar of Texas, and an active member of the Rocky Mountain Mineral Law Foundation.

Ronda K. Hood

Ronda obtained her law degree from South Texas College of Law in 1983, where she was Assistant to Lead-Articles Editor for the South Texas Law Review, and her undergraduate degree from the University of Texas at Austin in 1980. Upon graduation Ms. Hood clerked for Judge Paul C. Murphy at the 14th Court of Appeals. Ms. Hood practiced oil and gas title examination in Texas for two years at Hull & Grisell. When oil and gas prices dropped she became the Continuing Legal Education Attorney at South Texas College of Law under the leadership of Professor David Crump where she administered the first CLE Program at the College.

After raising her three children, Ms. Hood focused on oil and gas, real estate and corporate law before returning to title examination in 2006. Ms. Hood has extensive experience with acquisitions and divestitures in both Texas and North Dakota. Her Texas experience was developed through the preparation of title opinions, division order title opinions, and curative instruments while developing large horizontal gas units in East Texas and the Gulf Coast regions of Texas as Manager of a title practice group at a large law firm in Houston, Texas.

Ms. Hood’s practice is focused on oil and gas title examination, mergers & acquisitions, transactional work and wills and probate.
